What is a Debt Collector?
A Debt Collector Is Hired by Your Creditor
- Creditors Try To Scare You With Debt
Collectors: If you haven't paid a bill for a few months,
Creditors ask other agencies to try and collect your debt.
- Creditors Sell Your Debt! If
your creditor isn't getting payments from you, they may sell the right to
collect the debt to a completely different company.
What Can Debt Collectors Do?

Debt Collectors Can Send You Letters: Collection
Laws regulate what can be said in a collection letter
- Debt Collectors Can Call You:
Collection Laws regulate what can be said during conversations and in voice
mail messages
- Debt Collectors Can Get Information About You:
This can include pulling your credit report and in some circumstances
calling others to find out about your location.
What Can't Debt Collectors Do?

Debt Collectors Cannot Harass You! Debt Collectors
are not allowed to lie to you, curse at you, or threaten to do things which
are
illegal.

Debt Collectors Cannot Continue to Contact if you Request that
they Cease & Desist: When you ask a Debt Collector to "Cease &
Desist" collection activities, they can no longer call or write you.
YOU WILL STILL OWE THE DEBT!
